I’m hitting the skies to the beautiful state of Colorado.
I’m all by myself because the boys have other Boy Scout stuff to do. I love to
travel by myself. Doesn’t that sound so incredibly selfish? I love the freedom
of the ability to people watch when I want. I don’t have to keep up with the
crowd or worry about whether I need to wait to use the bathroom, as long as you
make sure you use the correct gender restroom (sorry to the poor, startled man
at the Disneyland Hotel a few weeks ago)!
Don’t get me wrong, it’s fun to travel with the family too,
especially watching the TSA try and go through my hubby’s carry on backpack
that barely zips. It’s a 3 hour flight and he carries newspapers, work papers,
playing cards, and even his harmonica (really, aren’t those banned on all
flights with cigarettes and weapons?). Then they perform the full pat down.
Good thing there’s a viewing area for this spectacle. It’s stressful only when
we are going to miss our flight, which we won’t because when we travel together,
I’m bossy about our time schedule. The last time we had an early flight I got
out of the shower and he was still in bed, curled up, fast asleep. He jumped up
and pretended he was up the whole time. Seriously, it takes a cattle prod to
get that man out of bed early.

But I digress past the reasons why I love to travel alone.
And just in case you know where I live, I travel and the man usually stays
home. The teenagers often complain that he doesn’t do things like mom does, but
still he’s there with our killer Border collie and killer rabbit. I’m not
kidding. One word and that “kill” command is irretractable. (Dang, I wasn’t
going to say the kill command word.)
Anyway, the killer dog and rabbit are guarding our precious belongings
that the kids have declared old, and decrepit. Our TV still has the big bump in
the back and our laptops are so old that they don’t run some programs because
the operating system is too old to support the software. As a matter of fact,
if you did, in fact, brave the killer dog and killer rabbit, you’d probably
feel so sorry for us, you might leave us new electronics!
Anyway, enough of the killer dog and rabbit guarding our
precious things, I love to travel because I love to see new places and new
things. I love to visit friends and family. I love to go to my annual Close To
My Heart scrapbooking convention and meet up with friends and leaders in this
wonderful company I work for.
I do admit though, I miss my hubbby. I wish we could go more
places together . . . it seems we don’t do enough of that. I blame Boy Scouts
(he’s the Scoutmaster of the troop and goes everywhere with the troop, even
when his own son doesn’t go.) Still, the kids are getting older and it won’t be
too long and we can go together and explore this country and beyond.
In the meantime, I have to go . . . there’s a family traveling
with little kids seated across from me in the waiting area. It’s like reality
TV, live and in person. The little boy is picking his nose and the little girl
is taking a part her backpack and strewing things all over the seats nearby. We
are about to board and I love watching the mom and dad try and wrangle their
troops to the waiting line
.
More on my travel adventures when I make it to Colorado. I’m
looking forward to long craft sessions, chick flicks, long chats in my friend’s
lovely backyard and of course, exploring all those fun coffee houses like
Ziggi’s and Kind Coffee. I can’t wait!
Happy Skies!
